How to tell the difference between back acne and a rash?

I have had problems with back acne and chest acne the chest acne I know for sure is acne but the back kind of looks like a rash how can I tell for sure I have been to a doctor about it and he prescribed 100 mg of Minoclylin. He didn't really even look at my back acne though just the stuff on my shoulders which I know is acne.
