What should I do about baby acne?

My 3-week old baby has a bunch of tiny bumps on her face - mainly on her forehead. At first I thought it looked like a heat rash, but my friend said it's definitely baby acne. Will it go away on its own or should I see her pediatrician?

Public Comments

1. just leave it alone- it will go away

2. My daughter had a bad case of baby acne. Do not use any soap and make sure that she only lays on things that are washed in baby detergent. If it doesn't go away on its own after a couple of weeks contact your pediatrician and they can give you some cream.

3. I've had two kids who have had this. My pediatrician told me to take a bar of dial soap, dampen it, rub a little soap on the babys area with acne and let it sit for a moment. Then wipe it off. It worked like a charm.

4. Baby acne is a common newborn condition. It can be present at birth, but typically appears at 3 to 4 weeks of age.

Babies develop the acne from the maturing effect of mothers’ hormones.

This condition tends to come and go until the baby is between 4 and 6 months old.

Usually, no treatment is necessary. It can help to gently cleanse the face once a day with water, and perhaps mild baby soap. Oils and lotions do not help, and may aggravate the condition. If the acne is severe or lasts beyond 6 months, your pediatrician may prescribe a mild medicine to help
